Strong storms possible tonight and Tuesday, dry & cool to start the first day of August

The first day of August will remain dry and nice, but more chances of storms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday, some possibly severe.

TONIGHT: The main round of showers and thunderstorms will move through the Northland during the early hours of the evening. Some storms could become strong to severe as there is still a marginal risk for severe weather over most of the Northland besides northeast Wisconsin and UP. Main threats being gusty winds and small hail. Storms should be done by midnight with mostly cloudy skies lingering behind the front. Lows will fall to the lower 60s and upper 50s with breezy south winds between 10-20 mph. Winds will change to the northwest by midnight. High pressure moves in behind the cold front keeping the first day of August cool and dry.

MONDAY: High pressure moves into the Northland behind the cold front keeping the first day of August mostly sunny and cool with highs in the mid 70s. Winds will continue to be from the north-northwest between 5-15 mph. There will be some cloudy conditions to start the morning hours for most of Wisconsin and UP as the system moves away, but sunshine is expected for everyone by noon. Lows will fall to the lower 60s and upper 50s once again with mostly clear conditions before another shortwave comes through bringing another chance for early showers on Tuesday.

TUESDAY: A shortwave from western Canada will bring another chance for showers and storms early Tuesday morning. More chances are storms are likely by Tuesday night into Wednesday and some storms once again could become strong to severe. A marginal risk has been issued for most of the Northland with a severe threat for parts of Aitkin and Carlton County. Main threats are similar to Sunday night with gusty winds and small hail possible. Highs will get warmer to the lower 80s and continue to stay in the 80s into Wednesday with more chances of showers. Lows will fall back to the mid 60s.
