Duluth FC closes out regular season on a high note
DULUTH, MN. (CBS3 Duluth) - With one final regular season game left on their schedule, there was a lot on the line for Duluth FC. They had one chance to take the NPSL North title, but Duluth would need to take care of business with the Sioux Falls Thunder first, a team they’ve beaten once and needed to do it all over again.
This meeting brought a gnarly first half full of unbelievable saves off of the Bluegreens attempts, but no offense fired up quite yet for the navy and green until after the bell.
One on one, in the 57th minute, it was none other than the UW-Superior Yellowjacket, Blake Perry who finally broke the scoreless tie to take the game’s first lead, 1-0.
Just minutes later, Bluegreens on the penalty kick and they strike again all thanks to Wynand Wessels doubling their lead for the 2-0 score in the 64th minute of play.
However, the Bluegreens weren’t done offensively, Thorton found Rory Carlson and the rest was history for Duluth’s third goal of the game.
Duluth FC hangs onto the lead despite Sioux Fall’s last-minute pair of goals for a 3-2 final.
The Bluegreens will find out their division fate when the top of the league Med City FC plays Joy St. Louis Park on Saturday night. Med City needs to drop their final regular season game for Duluth FC to clinch the NPSL North Title.
