Coast Guard Station Duluth honors two Olsons and a Zahn at change of command ceremony
DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3 Duluth) - The Northland’s Coasties came to attention this morning for a change of command ceremony at Station Duluth.
After two years as officer in charge of Duluth’s search and rescue station, Master Chief Christropher Zahn is moving to station Sturgeon Bay.
His replacement is no stranger to the Twin Ports. Master Chief Justin Olson was in charge of the Duluth Aids to Navigation Team during the flood of 2012.
Olson is a native of Litchfield Minnesota so he’s used to Lake Superior’s cold climate.
“I’m used to it growing up on a farm in central Minnesota. I’m very happy to be back in Duluth and to be able to watch the Vikings on our local channels is going to be great.” said Master Chief Boatswain’s Mate Justin Olson.
The change of command ceremony also paid tribute to Keith Olson. Conservation Officer Olson was the Minnesota DNR’s liaison officer to the Coast Guard from 1989 to 2022. He recently retired after 33 years of service in that capacity.
