DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3 Duluth) - Summer has arrived, and that often means a time to take some days off and enjoy summer vacation.

Getting away from your home, your daily routines and responsibilities can provide a mental and physical break that we all need. However, if we are not careful, we can return from vacation worn down and need additional time to recover from a hectic trip schedule.

In this week’s Eye on Lifestyle Nikki Karnowski of Metamorphosis Coaching, Consulting, and Training shares some suggestions to get the most out of your time off.

Sometimes when we take a trip, we return needing more rest, but Karnowski says there are ways to adjust to maximize your vacation.

The first is to plan in rest and don’t cram your vacations so full there is no downtime.

Karnowski says to try and allow yourself a day or two here and there just to do nothing to schedule some downtime during busy days.

The second tip is to define what refreshes you.

Karnowski says everyone is unique regarding how they refresh and relax, so figure out what that means to you.

And the final top is to take time to reflect and enjoy your relationships.

According to Karnowski, engaging in quality time with those we love on vacations builds our connection and helps us nurture those relationships that matter most.
