CARLTON, MN-- A local berry farmer from Carlton says his strawberry picking season will start later this season but anticipates them tasting better.

Steve Schulstrom, co-owner of Spectrum Farm Strawberries in Carlton, says the wet spring and warmer nights have made for the perfect growing season.

However, it’s just a little later than usual.

According to Schulstrom, last year they had to open in early June due to the drought.

The season was just eleven days.

This year, Schulstrom says they still have about a week to go before opening day and his customers are anxious to start picking.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing all these people who’ve picked here for years and years. I’ve watched their kids grow up and they always are really happy with their experience,” said Schulstrom.

Schulstrom is hopeful, he thinks this year people could be out picking for twice as long as last year’s 11 days of picking.
