3 apply for open Duluth City Council seat
DULUTH, MN -- Three people are vying to fill an open seat on the Duluth City Council.
Ashlie Castaldo, Hannah Alstead, and Hannah Smith all applied.
The first round of interviews is expected to be July 7 with a second round on July 11.
Then current city councilors will pick a final candidate.
The seat was left vacant after former Duluth City Councilor Renee Van Nett died of cancer earlier this month.
The candidate selected will fill the rest of Van Nett’s term. She had recently been re-elected in November 2021.
Van Nett served the city’s 4th District, which includes the Piedmont, Lincoln Park, and Duluth Heights neighborhoods.
