City by City: Chisholm, Aurora, Rock Ridge

Chisholm, MN- Camp Invention will take place this July at the Minnesota Discovery Center hosted by the Range Engineering Council. While registration is full, they are in need of volunteers. 9th grade through college age students are encouraged to sign up to help 1st through 6th-grade students. Volunteers which will be called “leadership interns”, will receive 40 volunteer hours, leadership training and a letter of recommendation from the US Patent and Trade Organization.

Aurora, MN- Saturday, June 11 is the 2nd annual Scotty Christensen Poker Run. The day will start at noon at the Loon Lake Community Center and is open to both motorcycles and vehicles. Proceeds from the event will go to scholarships in Christensen’s name. Those scholarships will be awarded to students interested in passions he had such as welding, blacksmithing, 4H and others. Five percent of this year’s proceeds will also go to help those in Ukraine. Christensen was killed in a hit-and-run accident in 2016.

Virginia and Gilbert, MN- The community is saying goodbye to a few schools. Rock Ridge Public Schools is holding two school closing and open house ceremonies this evening June 2. Beginning at 5 p.m. community members can walk the Gilbert Campus at Eveleth Gilbert Junior High and Nelle Shean Elementary one last time while also hearing from guest speakers. Then at 6 p.m. Roosevelt Elementary School in Virginia will have its open house and farewell program. This fall Nelle Shean students will move to Laurentian Elementary and Roosevelt students will move to Franklin Elementary.
