DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3) - After seven seasons leading the Duluth Northern Stars girls hockey team, Jamie Kenyon-Plesha has stepped down.

She was the longest-serving, winningest head coach in program history. The team itself is a co-op between Duluth East and Duluth Denfeld high school.

Kenyon-Plesha is a former UMD women’s hockey player who often stressed that the value in sports goes beyond winning and losing. She issued a statement on Twitter following an official press release by Duluth Public Schools.

“With the lack of outside support, the constant pushback from parents, and the lack of appreciation for the work my staff and I put in, I came to a point where I had to decide what is best for my own well-being and what is best for my family,” said Kenyon-Plesha in the statement.

The search for a new coach will begin immediately.
