City by City: Arrowhead, Duluth, Forest Lodge

A free SCRUBS Camp will be offered in Hibbing this August.

Arrowhead Region- A large group of Northland organizations is coming together to sponsor a SCRUBS Camp for area students this summer. SCRUBS Camp is a two-day experience for students in grades 9-12 that teaches them about all different types of health care professions. Covered professions include mental health, surgical technician, mortuary science and more. The camp will be held at Hibbing Community College in August. There are a limited number of spots, but the camp will be free thanks to a local grant!

Duluth, MN- Public comment is open for a potential sediment reduction project. The Minnesota DNR is working to reduce erosion and improve stream connectivity of Kingsbury Creek and the 68th Ave West Creek watersheds. They want to enhance aquatic habitats, stabilize the stream, and reduce the amount of sediment deposited in Kingsbury Bay. Public comment on the proposed plan can be made through June 16th.

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, WI- Volunteers are needed for a clean-up event Saturday, May 21, at Forest Lodge. The clean-up is a partnership with the Forest Service and Northland College. Time will be spent preparing the 872-acre site by getting out picnic tables, opening the guest house, clearing trails, cleaning the zen garden and more. Snacks and tools will be provided but you’re encouraged to pack a lunch and bring your own gloves. Work starts at 9 a.m.
