DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - A student was taken into custody Wednesday morning after the Duluth School District says they brought a loaded gun into a classroom at the Area Learning Center.

According to a statement from ISD 709, two staff members informed an administrator they believed a student had a gun.

The student was removed from class and a gun was confiscated.

Police responded and took the student into custody.

Officers say the 17-year-old boy was cooperative and taken to the Arrowhead Juvenile Center.

He faces charges of Possession of a Firearm in a School and Possession of a Firearm Under the Age of 18.

The district will handle school-level disciplinary action.

Still no word on why the student had the gun.
