DULUTH, MN-- A local education nonprofit is celebrating the opening of its new space.

STARBASE celebrated its new expansion Tuesday at the 148th Fighter Wing in Duluth.

The program gives students the opportunity to develop essential skills in STEM.

Students attend hands-on learning focused on real-world problem solving and engagement with technologies, scientific equipment and exploration of regional and local STEM careers.

The 7,000 square foot expansion will double the program’s space by adding four new classrooms and office space.

Several of the program’s alumni spoke Tuesday about how it has helped guide their learning.

“They definitely opened of the idea that STEM being a career that we can follow. Currently, I wanna go into biology or geology, and they helped me just understand that I can go into this field, and I can enjoy it while also helping the world,” said Sara Chun, STARBASE Alumnus.

STARBASE programs are free for schools and students.

Since 2017, more than 7,000 students have attended STARBASE in Duluth.
