A new take on an old classic: UMD Theatre presents ‘Pippin The Musical’
DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3 Duluth) - A beloved musical with a 70′S vibe is hitting the stage at UMD this month.
Next week performances for ‘Pippin The Musical’ begin at the Marshall Performing Arts Center.
The show’s guest director, Dennis Johnson, and Nike Wright, who plays the role of “Pippin”, sat down with CBS 3 This Morning’s Natalie Grant to discuss the production.
“Pippin is a young man who is kinda finding himself,” said Johnson. “It’s a coming of age story, and he is guided through the show by a troupe of actors that put him in different situations to see what he likes and what he doesn’t like and kinda figure out what life is all about.”
According to Johnson, they are changing how Pippin is usually done by putting a 40′s / 50′s MGN musical style on the performance.
“Lots of color, lots of dancing, and defiantly a different Pippin than you have seen before,” said Johnson.
‘Pippin The Musical’ will be at UMD’s Marshall Performing Arts Center starting April 14 and running until April 24.
