Schultz enters race for Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District
VIRGINIA, MN -- State Rep. Jennifer Schultz is running for Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District.
Schultz, a DFL’er, shared the news at a press conference in Virginia Monday morning.
Several weeks ago, Schultz said she wouldn’t seek a fifth term in the Minnesota State House of Representatives, adding that her time in public service wasn’t over.
Along with working as an economics professor at UMD, she currently serves District 7A, which covers the eastern half of Duluth.
Congressman Pete Stauber, a Republican, is currently in his second term serving Minnesota’s 8th District. He announced his re-election campaign in January.
Ernest Joseph Oppegaard-Peltier III, of Bemidji, is also running as a democrat for the 8th District.
One other Democratic candidate, Theresa Lastovich, had announced her campaign and then later dropped out of the race.
If needed, a primary election would be held in August, with the general election in November.
We’ll have much more on this story tonight on the news at 5 and 6 p.m.
