Ryan Fanti remains perfect in last three games
LOVELAND, CO. (CBS3 Duluth) - UMD, also known as Goaltender University in the playoffs. The Bulldogs have lived up to that this March. The country’s top goalie, Ryan Fanti, has three straight post-season shutouts.
The junior has stopped 83 shots in his last three games, improving his streak to 207:21 minutes without allowing a goal. This is Fanti’s second time crafting together three consecutive shutouts this season.
The goalie of the years ‘too good to be true’ efforts have lifted the ‘Dog pack to their seventh straight regional final, and the Bulldogs are the only team to accomplish that.
“From a goalie perspective, there are times you’re seeing pucks easier than other times. I had some stretches during the season where I felt this way, and there’s somewhere you don’t feel this way. So I think that’s just kind of the ups and downs of the season, and you know fortunate enough that for myself and for us that one of those times is right now where I’m seeing it often, and that’s kind of a testamate to our defensemen and stuff too,” said Fanti.
“It wasn’t our best, but Ryan was outstanding for us, Kobe obviously continues to do what he does, and it’s a good lesson. We have another opportunity to play another game here on Saturday, so we are excited about that, and we will be a better team on Saturday,” said Sandelin.
Saturday afternoon UMD and Denver will meet again for the sixth time. The Bulldogs lead the Pioneers 3-2 in their last five meetings. Puck drops at 3 pm in Loveland, Colorado.
