The UMD Men’s Hockey team secures shutout victory earning spot in NCHC Championship

DULUTH, MN. (CBS3 Duluth) - The UMD Men’s Hockey team advanced to the NCHC Championship on Saturday night after their shutout victor over no.3 Denver.

The maroon and gold come in evenly matched with the Pioneers. UMD and Denver sit at two wins apiece in their last four meetings this season.

In the first period, the Hermantown native Blake Biondi secures the game’s first goal at the Xcel Energy Center.

After a no score second period, Kobe Roth found the empty net in the third period to seal the deal for the Bulldogs.

The NCHC’s goaltender of the year, Ryan Fanti notches 30 saves in the 2-0 shutout victory.

UMD will play the winner of Western Michigan and North Dakota.
