City by City: Iron River, Sawyer County, Virginia
Iron River, WI- The Wisconsin Youth Anglers of Chequamegon Bay and Ashland Ice Fishing Team will be hosting their annual Pike Chain of Lakes Youth Ice Fishing Derby Saturday, January 22 at 8 a.m. The derby is open for all ages and completely free. Registration is available the day of at the Iron River Community Center or online ahead of time. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest pike, bass, walleye, perch, bluegill and crappie. Organizers say they really hope kids just get to experience a fun day outside on the lake.
Sawyer County, WI- The Hayward Lakes Visitor and Convention Bureau is hosting their Sled Sawyer 2022 contest to get people out and about this winter. The contest began in December and runs through the month of February. Organizers wanted to promote snowmobiling in the county and highlight their over 600 miles of trails. There are 30 signs scattered around the county that visitors and residents alike can post a picture with to be entered for prizes. Just be sure to use “#sledsawyer2022″ when posting. Virginia, MN- The Mesabi Family YMCA is upgrading their pool in the coming weeks. The popular amenity will close Friday, January 21, and hopes to reopen on Valentine’s Day. The pool will be getting a new liner and pool deck. The pool has been open since 1992 and was in need of repairs. The pool isn’t the only recent upgrade at the YMCA, recently they also upgraded equipment and lighting in their wellness room.
