WEATHER STORY:

A low poised to our west will drop to the south rather than track towards the heart of our Northland. That means heavy snow may run from the Dakotas through Iowa. We will get light snow that may only go a trace to an inch for most towns. Lake Superior moisture may make it a little heavier for the North and South Shores and kick out a range of 2-4″ through Friday night. Cooler air is coming in with this system so the warm spell of the past couple of days will go away. It will be cooler but not bitterly cold for Friday and Saturday. However, another shot of really cold arctic air could come later next week.

THURSDAY NIGHT:

The chance for light snow from a mostly cloudy sky stands at 40% for the overnight. Low temperatures will rapidly cool in northern Minnesota and go -15 to -5 away from Lake Superior. Lakeside towns will have lows from 2-8 above. Wisconsin and Michigan will have lows from 1-5 above. The wind will be ENE 5-15 mph.

FRIDAY:

The sky will stay mostly cloudy and a 30-50% chance for more light snow will linger. Snow totals by early Saturday morning will run a trace to an inch for most communities. By Lake Superior, totals could run 2-4″. Friday’s afternoon high temp will be 5-12 in northern MN. The rest of MN will run 15-19. WI and the U.P. will place between 13-16. The wind will be E 10-20 mph.

SATURDAY:

The sky will clear as cool high pressure from Canada makes a home here to start the weekend. The low will be near -5. The high will hit +15. The wind will be N 5-10 mph.

COMING UP:

Sunday will warm up to the 20′s for a day as a new low brings a fresh chance for snow to town. Martin Luther King Junior Day on Monday will be partly sunny with a low of 10 and a high of 20. Yet another snow chance will be with us on Tuesday. That will be followed next Wednesday and Thursday by more arctic high pressure that will send high temps to a range of 5-10 and overnight lows down to -15.
