City by City: Ashland, Babbitt, Chisholm

Ashland, WI- The new community shelter is offering volunteer training this month. Before volunteering at the shelter a person must complete the training. Training sessions will be offered Saturday, January 15, and Sunday, January 23. If those dates don’t work and you’d still like to volunteer, click here for more information.

Babbitt, MN- A special city council meeting Thursday, January 13, will determine the future of the Recreation Advisory Committee. At the meeting, councilors will go over three options for keeping the committee in some capacity or vote to dissolve it altogether. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. A public comment period will be available.

Chisholm, MN- The United Way of Northeastern Minnesota is hosting their “Making Reel Change” fishing contest beginning Thursday, January 13 through Monday, January 17. Proceeds from the tournament will help provide free and reduced dental care to those in need across the region. Anglers can fish at any lake in St. Louis, Koochiching, Itasca or Lake of the Woods Counties. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish and randomly chosen winners. Also in Chisholm, the Knights of Columbus Chisholm Council #3539 recently donated five large bags of winter coats to the Hibbing Salvation Army and Chisholm Food shelf. They wanted to say thank you to all who helped support their drive, especially in the recent frigid weather.
