Superior School District reinstates mask mandate; effective Wednesday
DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - On Tuesday, Superior School leaders said the district’s mask mandate will be reinstated for all staff, students, and visitors.
This comes as COVID-19 cases linked to the Omicron variant have been on the rise following winter break.
The Superior School District started their spring semester Monday, Jan. 3, with an optional mask policy.
As of Jan. 11, Superior School District Administrator, Amy Starzecki, said masks will be mandatory in all district buildings starting Wednesday, Jan. 12.
All staff, students, and visitors will be required to wear a mask vaccinated or unvaccinated.
Starzecki said this week, about 20 staff positions were left vacant as COVID transmission rates spiked.
She said the district will continue monitoring COVID cases within the district to determine how long the mask policy will stay in effect.
