DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3) - Hundreds of gifts were handed Sunday to children and families across the Northland.

The annual “Make Every Child Smile” toy distribution was held Sunday.

This year the drive-thru event was stationed at “Shake It” in West Duluth.

According to Mike Letica, who organizes the event every year, they had 138 cars come through and gave away close to 600 gifts.

Organizers said it was a great turn out and it couldn’t be possible without community donations and support.

“I think it is fantastic that the whole community comes together to ensure that every child has a gift under the tree on Christmas,” said Tara Aase, co-event coordinator.

Families in line for gifts said after a challenging financial year because of the pandemic, toy drives like this mean a lot.

“It helps people out, especially when the bills get overwhelming when they get piled up. It is a lot of stuff,” said Corean.

Letica said the second part of their drive is adopting families for the holidays.

They are currently gathering gifts, food, school supplies, and outerwear for 32 local families.
