NCAA Expands DI Women’s Hockey Tournament
DULUTH, MN. (CBS3 Duluth) - The NCAA DI Men’s hockey tournament has a field of sixteen teams, while the women’s hockey team has historically included just eight teams, that is, until now.
The NCAA has announced that they’ll be expanding the women’s tournament by three teams to 11.
They’ve also approved a new format for the tournament. The top five seeds will get first-round byes before the quarterfinals, which keeps their schedule relatively intact.
The logic behind an 11-team field is to include the same percentage of all total women’s hockey teams in the national tournament that the men’s game has.
