City by City: Wisconsin, Lake Vermilion, Tower

Wisconsin- Students who miss school meals due to COVID-19 will still receive food benefits. Students who receive free or reduced lunch or breakfast, but are unable to do so due because of distance learning or needing to stay home for COVID-related reasons, will be able to receive food benefits for those missed days. Previously benefits were sent based upon what the school was doing in terms of distancing learning, but now will be based on a child by child basis.

Lake Vermilion, MN- The Minnesota DNR will be performing creel surveys on Lake Vermilion this winter. A creel survey is used by the DNR to collect information on the amount and type of fish caught as well as how many fishermen are out. Creel clerks will survey fishermen at random and the DNR is asking for participants full cooperation. The surveys will run through the end of February. This is the first winter survey on Lake Vermilion since 1986. For more information, click here.

Tower, MN- The city trail committee is asking for help with replacing old infrastructure. The Tower City/Howard Wagoner Ski trails committee is hoping to replace aging light infrastructure along the night skiing routes. The group has raised about 75% of their goal, but have set up a GoFundMe page to help raise the final $2,500. They say some of the wiring is over 30 years old and ready to be replaced.
