City by City: Eveleth, Hibbing, Nashwauk

Eveleth, MN- Construction is almost complete on a new $34 million dollar elementary school. Laurentian Elementary is part of several new constructions projects following the creation of the Rock Ridge Public School District. The new building is 89,000 square feet and will serve pre-K through 6th-grade students. The building is expected to open to students next fall. Hibbing, MN- Hibbing is also seeing new programs on the way for even the youngest of learners. Changes for Hibbing Early Childhood Family Education in Fall of 2022 include moving to their new early learning center in Washington Elementary School and expanding current programs. They will be starting a pilot 3-year-old preschool program as well as extending the “Ready Set Go” preschool program to 4 or 5 days a week. Registration for the 2022-2023 school year will start in the spring.

Nashwauk, MN- On Tuesday, December 14, the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board approved $18 million dollars to support the construction of a new k-12 school for District 319. Last month, the Nashwauk-Keewatin School Board approved bringing a referendum vote to the community. The vote will be held in early February. The referendum also includes voting on an adjacent community wellness center.
