UPDATE: Carlton County man charged with murder in death of his wife
KALEVALA TWP, MN. (CBS 3 DULUTH) UPDATE-- A Carlton County man is charged with murder after police found his wife dead in thier home.
Raymond Julian, 65, was charged in Carlton County Court Monday, with Murder - 2nd Degree - With Intent-Not Premeditated, in the death of his wife Tracy Julian, 62.
The incident happened Friday just after 2:30 p.m. when Carlton County Deputies did a welfare check at the Julian home on Heiskari Road in Kalevala Township.
According to the criminal complaint, the person who called 911 requesting a welfare check at the Julian home, indicated they had received an email from Raymond Julian, which implied he planned to kill his wife.
Deputies spoke with the reporting party who read them the contents of the email prior to their response. Based on the initial report and the content of the email the deputies responded to the residence to perform a welfare check.
According to the complaint, when the first deputy arrived Raymond Julian told the deputy that he was well and that his wife was ill in bed, and he would rather the deputy not check on her.
The deputy told the man that he and his wife weren’t in any trouble. Raymond then stated, “that’s the problem, you’re going to have to arrest me,” according to the complaint.
Officers continued to speak with Raymond and he stated, “My wife is dead, she’s in the bed, I killed her.”
The deputy asked if there was any chance his wife was still alive, to which he responded, “no”.
Raymond was detained and taken to the hospital after making statements about hurting himself.
Raymond stated that there was a shotgun on the kitchen counter and a .357 in a black zip case.
When deputies searched the home they found Tracy Julian dead.
Court documents state autopsy results are still pending, however, from initial observations of the scene, the documents state it appears Tracy died as a result of two gunshot wounds, one to the chest area and one to the head.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
KALEVALA TWP, MN. (CBS 3 DULUTH) -A Carlton County woman was found dead Friday after a welfare check in her Kalevala Township home.
Just after 2:30 P.M., Carlton County Sheriffs deputies responded to the 3000 block of Heiskari Road after a 911 call.
When they arrived on location, they found 62-year-old Tracy Julian deceased.
According to a Saturday press release, it appears she died from a gunshot wound.
Her husband, 65-year-old Raymond Julian, was arrested at that address.
He is currently being held at the Carlton County Jail for 2nd-degree murder charges.
According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, no other suspects are being sought, and there is no danger to the public.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating.
More information is expected to be released Monday.
