Virginia, MN- A local small business has announced it will be closing its doors next month. Sherri Kinkel, of Material Girl Fabric and Crafts, announced Tuesday she will be retiring in January. She bought the store in July of 2010 and after 11 years and wants to say thank you to the community for their support over the last decade. The store will be closed for two weeks around the holidays and she expects to have plenty of sales to round out January.

Twin Ports- Both Minnesota and Wisconsin’s Transportation Department’s will be hosting a public meeting Thursday to discuss the future of the Blatnik Bridge. The bridge was built in 1961 and both departments have it listed as their highest priority structures at risk of service interruption. The departments will host a presentation about needed and potential work coming to the bridge. Gogebic County, MI- Gogebic County has begun to look for a new Sheriff. In November, Sheriff Pete Matonich announced he will retire at the end of 2021. He served as sheriff for 11 years and nearly 35 years of total service to Gogebic County. Applications for the sheriff’s role are open through Friday, December 10. The election process will be held in the 2022 election cycle next fall. An appointment committee will look through the applicants Wednesday, December 15.
