CHISHOLM, MN (CBS 3 Duluth)-- A Chisholm Family is searching for answers after claiming their beloved family dog was stolen from their yard and killed last week.

The Skaudis family says they last saw their 7-year-old German Shepard, Ruger, last Wednesday while putting up outdoor Christmas decorations. But shortly after they went inside, Ruger was no longer in their yard.

They then spent the next few days frantically searching for their dog.

They trekked through woods, knocked on doors, and contacted the local authorities.

Then two days later, Cristin Skaudis said they got a call from a good samaritan who found Ruger’s body on the side of the road about three miles from home.

The Skaudis family and police say it appears Ruger was intentionally killed.

Skaudis said they are not only searching for answers as to what happened to Ruger but spreading awareness hoping something like this doesn’t happen again in their community.

“It’s very concerning to me because of other pets and kids. You just never know what is coming next, and I don’t want something like this to happen to a child especially or even someone else’s pets,” said Skaudis.

The Skaudis’s are offering a $1,500 reward for anyone with information on Ruger’s killing.

They also have a go-fund-me page set up to add to the reward.

Chisholm Police have also said they are investigating the situation.

As of Monday, they weren’t able to share any more information.
