DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3) - The UMD men’s hockey team is preparing for a rare series against the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

The Bulldogs and Nanooks haven’t met since 1988, and UMD leads their all-time series 4-0.

Head coach Scott Sandelin is looking for a better result from his team this weekend, after their 1-1 split in North Dakota last weekend when Sanelin felt that his team had plenty of opportunities to sweep the series.

“First thing I told our guys was don’t look at the record. Records don’t mean anything is college hockey anymore. but to me they pressure pucks. They play a game where they get up the rink, they push you out of the zone, a lot like Western. Obviously, the work hard like every team does and if we’re not ready we are going to make it very difficult,” said Sandelin.

Puck drop for game one is set for 7:07p.m. on Friday night, and will be live on My9 Sports.
