DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3 Duluth) - Last season, the Superior boy’s hockey team made it to their first state tournament since 2015, finishing up just short in the State Championship game.

Tuesday night was their first time back on the ice since that loss opening their season against Menomonie at the Superior Ice Arena.

Just ten minutes in, senior Robert Powell wasted no time scoring the first goal of the season.

Carter Pettit followed Powell five minutes later to put the Spartans up, 2-0 in the first period.

Lucas Williams sniped the third goal, and Superior closed out the first with a 4-0 score, closing out the night with a shutout win for Trevor Soderlund in the net, 7-0.
