City by City: Cable, Superior, North Shore

Cable, WI- Cross-country skiing enthusiasts in the Northland can get their first taste of skiing of the season this Thanksgiving weekend. The American Birkebeiner trailhead will play host to the the Turkey Birkie Ski Festival. The festival will run from Friday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 28 with the trails being open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A pass for the weekend is just $25. For those new to the sport, there will be lessons available as well as demos with new equipment.

Superior, WI- In Superior, veterans eat free on Thanksgiving. The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center is providing Thanksgiving meals for veterans, active military personnel, and their families. Service members can dine-in, pickup curbside or get their meal delivered to them. The Bong Center will be providing 200 meals. Early reservations are recommended. Veterans can get their free meal on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

North Shore, MN- The region will be getting into the Christmas spirit right after Thanksgiving. The North Shore Scenic Railroad’s Christmas City Express will begin on Friday, Nov. 26 and runs through Dec. 19. The train will be decked out with the expected Christmas decorations, but the magic of the experience is the live performance on board the train that tells the tale of a young girl travelling to Duluth to visit her family on Christmas Eve. The audience will experience the journey right along with her.
