DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3 Duluth) - Four hundred volunteers are spending three days preparing warm Thanksgiving meals for Northland families this year.

Rick Frost, who’s been volunteering for 16 years, said the long hours and hard work are always a rewarding experience.

“I just enjoy doing something for other people. And the people that do come here appreciate that it’s well done for them,” Frost said.

Meals are being prepped for delivery and for a new pick-up option at spots around Duluth, Hermantown, and Carlton.

Event organizer, Monica Hendrickson, said more options were crucial this year.

“There’s so many people who still need help. There’s a lot of families that have been affected by COVID, and even thinking about people who have just come down with COVID and that’s a lot of the calls we’re getting right now is - my family just came down with COVID, I can’t leave, I can’t pick anything up,” Hendrickson said.

Preparations began on Monday and continue through Wednesday.

On Thanksgiving, volunteers will be giving out hot and cold dishes at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. The deadline to sign up for those meals already passed.
