City by City: Duluth, Hibbing, Virginia
Duluth, MN- Thanks to “A Sweet Event,” a Duluth-based event company, holiday enthusiasts can put their Christmas light set up to the test against the whole region. The 2021 Lighting Challenge, now in its 7th year, allows community members to vote on the best business and home lighting displays. In addition to Duluth and Superior, this year’s contest will also include Hermantown and Cloquet. Registration for the lighting challenge begins on Friday, Nov. 19, and the voting will begin on Dec. 3.
Hibbing, MN- The Hibbing community is kicking off Thanksgiving week with the Spirit of Unity Parade. This year, the route through historic downtown Hibbing will be a little bit different, beginning and ending at the Memorial building. 18 different local businesses and organizations are participating, including the Hibbing Police, Hibbing Community College and Midwest Communication. The Spirit of Unity Parade will take place on Monday, Nov. 22, and run from 6:00-7:45 p.m.
Virginia, MN- The Festival of Tress kicked off on Wednesday, Nov. 17. This year marks the 21st year of the festival. Tonight is the festival’s family night, and the biggest events of the celebration will begin going into the weekend. Saturday will begin with an exploration of visible light through the Webb space telescope, and the day willl culminate with a festive firework show. The festival’s main attraction, the winter carnival, will run all day Saturday and Sunday.
