DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - The University of Minnesota Duluth women’s basketball team is back for another big push in the 2021-22 season.

The reigning NSIC champs (regular season and postseason) finished their strong campaign last season with a run to the second round of the DII NCAA Tournament. This year, they return all of their contributing players, including three super-seniors taking advantage of their extra COVID-eligibility.

“The greatest enemy to good is great, so I think just not being complacent with what we have accomplished within these past four years, at least with our seniors. But also, we’re just not complacent with winning a conference tournament championship. But we want to win elite eight championships, and go on further and further in the tournament,” said senior Brooke Olson.

Olson was the 2020-21 NSIC Player of the Year, and has already been named as the conference preseason player of the year for this season. The Bulldogs were picked to repeat as conference favorites as well.

“I keep telling them I’m a little bit worried about complacency, and how are we going to keep getting better, because every other team is going to get a little bit better, so how are we going to match that and go beyond that. Just pretty excited about this group, they’re fun, they work hard,” said head coach Mandy Pearson.

The 18th ranked Bulldogs (WBCA DII Poll) will open their season with a trip to Missouri to take on 2nd ranked Drury on Tuesday, November 16.
