DULUTH, MN. (CBS 3 Duluth) -

Update Sept. 20, 2 p.m.

NEAR ISABELLA, MN-- Hwy 1 near Isabella has reopened to traffic.

Motorists should use caution as suppression efforts on the Greenwood fire continue and follow the posted speed limits.

NEAR ISABELLA, MN-- The Greenwood Fire started by lightning just over a month ago is seeing progress.

The fire, which started nearly 10 miles southwest of Isabella burned 14 primary structures and 57outbuildings.

As of Friday, fire officials say 80% of the fire is now contained and there is fewer personnel on scene working.

A total of 196 are currently tied to fighting the fire.

Crews continue to repair control lines by pulling berms of topsoil along the sides of the control line back onto the line.

Firefighters will be removing hoses from the fire perimeter where heat has been eliminated.

A heat-detecting, infra-red flight is scheduled for Friday with weather permitting.

The Greenwood Fire remains at 26,797 acres in size.


NEAR ISABELLA, MN– Another progressive day in the fight to contain the Greenwood Fire.

The fire started with a lightning strike a month ago but as of Tuesday, crews say the fire is now 75% contained.

The Minnesota Incident Management Team C is now the current crew on the scene of the Greenwood Fire.

311 personnel are helping the fire efforts.

Whereas back in late August, there was 468 personnel helping fight the fire.

14 primary structures and 57 outbuildings were destroyed on August 23.

Officials said containment will increase as firefighters continue to secure the perimeter.

Fire crews are cleaning up along Highway 1 where the fuel break had been constructed.

Crews will remove the hose and use an excavator to mop up along Highway 2.

Graders are being used to repair the road in the McDougal Lake area.

The Greenwood Fire remains at 26,797 acres in size.
