Two facing charges for kidnapping, assault, attempted murder
Two people have been formally charged in connection with an alleged kidnapping in Duluth.
According to the criminal complaint, Natausha Smith, 34, and Wade Sorensen, 37, allegedly kidnapped, assaulted, and tried to murder a man earlier this month.
The complaint states Smith believed the victim had molested her son while babysitting Smith's children, and had set up interviews for her children regarding that incident on the same day as the alleged assault took place.
On March second, authorities say Smith had the victim come to her home on West Fourth Street, where she allegedly had her seventeen year old niece help her tackle the victim to the ground before hitting him over the head with nunchucks and tying him up.
The complaint goes on to say Smith then allegedly left to go to the interviews with her children, and later came back with three others, including Sorensen, who - according to the criminal complaint - is Smith's "baby daddy".
It is not known which of Smith's children was fathered by Sorensen.
The complaint states the suspects allegedly put a padlock in the victim's mouth and putting him in a car.
Authorities say Smith and the others put the victim in a car and drove him around for about an hour, all while assaulting him.
Later, officials say the victim was allegedly pushed out of the vehicle, and Sorensen tried to slit the victim's neck.
The complaint states the victim played dead until the assault ended.
Smith and Sorensen are expected back in court next month.
